Murder Mystery evening

A murder mystery evening was held on 19th November 2011. This was run by the Abbotskerswell Twinners and Teignmouth Twinning members were invited. There was a 1920's/30’s theme and many people wore 20s/30s dress. We enjoyed a two course meal during which we were given various clues about the lead up to the event and a murder scene was enacted by a professional group. Our job was to try and work out who dun it.

Skittles evening - October 2011

An evening of skittles with supper at the "Mount Pleasant" at Dawlish. A group of about twenty five attended and played several different games of skittles and enjoyed a meal together. Thank you to the organisers.

Picnic in the Marquee - July 2011

This was a charity event organised by the Rotory club of Teignmouth and in aid of help for heroes and the Alice Cross Centre in Teignmouth. Teignmouth Twinning had its own table so we were able to enjoy the company of friends and the food (supplied by ourselves) and the entertainment organised by the Rotory Club. The group Take 4 started off the entertainment with an eclectic mix of light mostly jazz numbers, then came the previous mayor of Teignmouth Ian Parks who sang a range of well known and popular favourites. Next The Goodie Bags impressed and amused us with their themed musical event. The evening was rounded off by comedian Danny Posthill who amused us with his late-night humour.

During the course of the evening Lez the Fez went round each table to astonish us with some very impressive close-up magic tricks. How do they do that?

French evening of song - March 2011

An audience of some forty francophiles enjoyed the talents of singer and guitarist Rene Wyndham at Bitton House on Thursday 31 March. The previous weather announcer from Television South West and current international radio and television reporter demonstrated her musical skills in delighting the audience with her selection of solo songs and chorus songs involving audience participation.

Rene made the return trip from Lyme Regis and had been preparing her presentation for several months and was careful not to duplicate previous songs. In her easy and friendly manner she soon had the audience alongside and presented a thoughtful and eclectic mix of songs she would have first heard in her youth sung by such artistes as Francoise Hardy, Georges Brassens, Guy Béart, Anne Sylvestre, Anne Wanderlove, Jacques Brel and translations of Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan. Her rendering of Brel's “Ne me quitte pas” had the tingle factor and her impeccable French accent lent the whole evening that element of complete authenticity. She would willingly have conducted the whole event in French but bent to the wishes of the audience in alternating French with English explanations.

At the end of the evening Rene was our guest in the “bring and share” buffet meal that we enjoyed together with a glass of wine. So many thanks are due to the organizers for yet another  very successful evening.

Quiz Evening February 2011

A quiz evening with a nautical theme was held at the Teignmouth Corinthian Yacht Club on 24th Feb 2011.  The evening was managed by one of our nautical members who also set the questions.  Each team of six became the crew of a yacht and the course to be sailed was marked on a large board complete with stick-on yachts which could be moved around the course.  The course had a number of buoys and navigational dangers which had to be manoeuvred by the boat.  When the crew answered a question correctly they could move their yacht forward, tack or round a buoy.

Drinks were available at the bar and the galley was set up for a “bring and share” meal.  The evening was a great success and many thanks to the organisers.

On Saturday 15th January about 30 members of Teignmouth Twinning Association gathered at Langston Cliff Hotel for our annual end of year celebration. This year it was a relatively nice day weather-wise and this was matched by the warmth of our reception within. So many thanks are due to the organizers for yet another  very successful New Year’s lunch.

Bowls day 25th July 2009

Fortunately the Met Office was correct in its forecast for Saturday 25th July and the sun shone warmly all day long on Ilsington Bowling Green. It was good to see so many Twinners represented and participating in the Bowls competition.  After a welcome coffee the morning was devoted to perfecting our swing and correcting our bias under the encouraging tutelage of the club professionals!

There were moments of excellence and moments when the green just wasn’t quite big enough to contain our enthusiastic bowling but a good time was had by all.
After a hearty buffet lunch the afternoon was devoted to a knock out competition

Grateful thanks must be extended to all the members of the twinning club who produced such a wonderful barbeque and helped to make a fabulous day out.
